9:00-02:00pm kirtan, kaatha and dewan

UK's Namdhari sangat got together at the Namdhari Sikh Center Southall to celebrate the Holla Mohala of 2005. While the real mela was going on in Sri Bhaini Sahib, the sangat in UK had to be content with the 'minor' celebrations in Southall.

Commencing in the early hours of Sunday, 27 March, the asa di var was rendered by Ustad Harbhajan Singh Ji & ragi Satvinder Singh Bhogal. A havan was done and the session closed with sadaran paath de bhog and ardas.

The morning session commenced with naam simran accompanied by a DVD of Hazoori Jatha in Sri Bhaini Sahib singing the shabad 'phir deekhan ke aas'. The congregation was soon to experiance a treat of shabads, kavitas, classical music and hally de dewan.

Kirtan and Katha: First on stage was Sant Satbachan Singh Deoora, who spoke on the occasion and pleaded the importance of teaching the youth about namdhari faith, history and culture. Ragis Satvinder Singh, Surjeet Singh and Ranbir Singh accompanied by Kulwant Singh Bhogal on tabla, performed 'sat sangat kaise jaanye'. Bibi Pawanjeet Kaur did a kavita on Sri Satguru Pratap Singh Ji while youngesters Arjun Singh (9yrs) & Jeevat Singh (10yrs) did the shabad 'harjan ram ram'.

The transition of the holi celebrations to the holla mohla by Satguru Gobind Singh Ji, a brief history of Satguru Balak Singh Ji were two main topics of the katha by Gurdev Singh (son of sant Dyal Singh). The students of Ragi Surjeet Singh rendered two intoxicating vocal compositions ('humara thakur' in rag asa and 'gur ka bachan' in rag roopak taal), accompanied by sitars, tarshahneis, dilrubas, harps and tablas. This was followed by Bibis Satnam & Sukhwant Kaur Bhogal performing a composition by Ustad Harbhajan Singh Ji. The Hindu ladies group Sangam, did two delightful bhajans.

Book launch: Sikh historian Kehar Singh Matharu from Canada had the UK launch of his new book entitled 'Satguru Ram Singh Ji'. This was a rear happening since Kehar Singh is a non-namdhari sikh. Before publication, this work was approved in Sri Bhaini Sahib. The sangat heard Kehar Singh render a kavita ('the defination of kooka sikhs') from this book.

Three Diwans: The sangat was treated to three hallay de dewans - a first in UK! Jathedar Dr Joga Singh from Delhi, Jathedar Davinder Singh from Chandigarh and Sant Dyal Singh Ji were accompanied by UK jathas in the diwans. All three narrated short stories and kauthaks from the lives of Satguru Balak Singh Ji and Sri Satguru Pratap Singh Ji.
