Sant Kartar Singh Sondh (1917-2008): Namdhari Sikh Sangat Southall and Namdhari Sangat Nairobi Kenya recently lost one of its oldest members. Sant Kartar Singh Sondh passed away on 29th May 2008, after a chronic illness. His funeral ceremony and Paath Da Bhog was concluded on 7th June at Namdhari Sikh Center, Southall, UK.
He was born in 1917 in the village of Bhada Pind (near Goraya) distt. Jalandhar. In 1936 he was married to Mata Pritam Kaur. He was a professional carpenter. Seeking broader horizons, in 1946 he migrated to East Africa and settled in Nairobi. Sant Kartar Singh ji was one of the first few Sikhs who were baptised and given the ‘Naam’ during Sri Satguru Pratap Singh Ji’s first tour of Africa, in 1956.
In 1972, the family migrated to the UK and made home in Southall. He retired in 1984. Sant ji was an active member of the Southall Sangat and played a major role in the development of the building works of the Namdhari Centre.
He leaves behind 16 grandchildren, 3 daughters and 3 sons.
